I did some sketching after work today, which involved refining an earlier sketch and sketching Douglas. Who’s Douglas? Douglas is kind of having a bad day. Something is sure shocking to him. His neck beard is out of control. He has a tail. This is Douglas:

This morning I got up early, got coffee, got an old green suitcase that I can’t unlock from salvation army, and drew this:

Broke my own negative space with a pocket.

Actaeon: finished!

So I named him Actaeon, after the guy who watched artemis bathe. She turned him into a stag to be hunted down by his own hounds, and something about this guy makes me think vulnerability and the fruit seem like little voyeurs so it kind of fits. This is the finished product! I’ve put it up on etsy here and here.

Blocking out some of the shading! This time I don’t have that much interesting to say, other than Controller, Controller is good music to draw to.

This design is going to really suck at being a stained glass window.

WIP FitS Window, Part 5

I started this guy saying, keep him graphic, keep him simple. Make an ACEO out of it and blow through it to start on the next thing. I should know better.

In this step basically I did two things. One, I straightened out his antlers so they look more natural. And two… well.. I figured branches have knobby parts and so do elbows and wrists. Elbows and wrists have hands at the end of them, and so should these branches. It’s also a convenient way to attach apples to the tree. Can you imagine how fun it would be to pick apples if you could tickle the palms of the little hands afterwards? And tiny obscene gestures are just cute. Tiny anything is cute. (Strings coming soon I’m sure)

I think these things sort of happen as they go.

Okay so a friend with a very dirty mind took exception to the original layout I posted below, and I edited it until his dirty mind was scrubbed as clean as I could get, as my intention for this window isn’t exactly provocative. I’m probably halfway through cleaning up this tree and getting the basics out of the way. I will be making the arching tree have apples and then also string. String string string.
