Greenpeace competition entry
This is my entry for the Greenpeace re-branding BP competition. I was initially just going to do a logo, which is what was called for, but found myself mystified by the copy in an actual green-washed BP ad I found. “It’s time to think outside the barrel.” Well they’re thinking outside the barrel all over [...]

Kill Baby Krill
It may be from my time doing editorials, but when I am upset by something I usually want to use my art to make a point with it. It’s the biggest temptation away from surrealism that I experience. I gave in last night and made this: On etsy (5×9) Print and (2.25×3.8) Sticker

Now it becomes clear I think visually that the intention is to reproduce the circulatory system in string on the outside of her body. I’ll look at it for a minute one way and the strings seem sweet with little bows. Then they seem grisly and tangled, and then sweet again. There’s something science-project-gone-awry developing [...]

WIP Arterial, Part 04
Working on completing the artery and vein strings. The bulk of the detail left for this stage of the work is in the string wrapped around the right hand. After that it’s time for color.

WIP Arterial, Part 03
I decided she should be clothed, because clothes are fun to draw. The iron ring that is the “heart” seemed like it would make an interesting element in her dress, and kind of meld her clothes with the string and vascular system, even though it’s kind of an unlikely element.

Actaeon: finished!
So I named him Actaeon, after the guy who watched artemis bathe. She turned him into a stag to be hunted down by his own hounds, and something about this guy makes me think vulnerability and the fruit seem like little voyeurs so it kind of fits. This is the finished product! I’ve put it [...]

WIP FitS Window, Part 6
So if branches have hands, maybe fruit has faces. I was going to (and may still) put the faces into the trunk of the tree, but the fruit just seemed too round and ready for them. I don’t know why they don’t have noses, but I know that an apple with a nose I wouldn’t want to [...]
